The steeple of the Church of the Holy Spirit and the small street of Börsi pass in Tallinn’s Old Town still look like this wartime graphic sheet by Märt Laarman. The architecture of Tallinn’s Old Town provides a rich source of material for the modernists, the cultivators of geometric art, such as Leonhard Lapin’s lithograph Vana Tallinn V (Old Tallinn V) (2004) in this HAUS Gallery auction. Märt Laarman’s heyday of artistic innovation was in the 1920s, in connection with the Group of Estonian Artists and as an advocate and theoretician of geometric art.
