A simple and pretentious winter view that we have all experienced. The presence of a person is indicated by traces on the snow. Watercolour as a water-based art technique is perhaps suitable for depicting snow and winter. In general, it is said that painting snow is one of the most difficult tasks – it is widely known that snow is white, but when an artist looks at it, something else turns out. Richard Uutmaa, who was from a fishing village in North Estonia and studied at the Pallas school of art in Tartu in the 1930s, has depicted many views of nature with which the viewer can relate and recognise themselves in these paintings.
