Jüri Kask, an artist with large-scale ideas, plays in the texture of high-modernist abstract art, which was particularly appropriate in the 1970s and 1980s, and in the current period of metamodernism has returned to the art scene with recognition (in the period of 2019–2021, Jüri Kask was awarded an artist grant, a privilege previously enjoyed mainly by the younger generation). In a recent solo exhibition at the Vaal Gallery, Jüri Kask comments on his quest to become an artist with the mystery befitting an abstractionist: "My art is characterised by grandiosity, literally – no big words – and the need to always see and show the big picture, to know where things fit. As an artist, I should not have extraneous thoughts – those that come to my head through the ear in the form of words, ways, and means. An artist’s thoughts are woven from the mind’s eye and are visible in an instant."
