"Heaven's Atlas No. 23" depicts a clear and unambiguous motif - a red toadstool that once grew in the forests of Võrumaa and which Peeter Laurits knows was used by ancient shamans as a means to go on a spiritual journey. Thus, it is a mysterious object that arouses curiosity, but also instills fear, which is perhaps better just to look at.
Peeter Laurits, an artist who uses a photo camera, knows how to formulate and visualize his poetic thoughts in an amazing way. He has described the visuals here as “the birthday cake of heaven”. In a longer series of works, there are more of these birthday cakes, depicting the different phases of decay and decay of the fungus, just as nature intended.
Peeter Laurits has been in dialogue with nature in different periods of his photo-based artistic journey, but not in a romantic way. He can get under the skin of natural phenomena with his camera and look at the world from this perspective. For a person as such, the view may not always be to their liking, because Laurits is on the side of nature.
Peeter Lauritsa's ongoing project is called "Biotopia", which connects like-minded scientists and creative people from different continents. Website: https://biotoopia.ee/
