Esko Lepp, a graphic artist of romantic views of nature and farmhouses, studied at the State Industrial Art School in Tallinn at the end of the 1930s, under Günther Reindorff, whose works are also up for auction at HAUS Gallery. In the 1940s, the artist studied in Tartu and Moscow. The woodcut here was printed under a gravure press in 1967, but the woodblock is probably from 1958, the date of an identical work titled Fishermen of Muhu. The view of boats and boat sheds, increasingly fading by today’s standards, is both nostalgic and historical.
