While many artists rarely painted flowers, alongside other themes, the generation of flower children was represented in the person of Malle Leis, as her central theme remained flowers later on. Today’s feminist art history associates this with the artist being a woman. For example, American artist Georgia O’Keeffe of the early 20th century has painted giant flower blossoms in which the will to live, endless beauty, and female sexuality are encoded.
