In an almost geometrically composed space, the artist and the model who inspires him are supposedly present – a timeless situation. Although parts of the painting aspire to Picasso-like cubism and the harsh style of the 1960s (the dark contours surrounding the figures suggest the latter), there is also a clear optical concern with the fall of light. The window is located on the right side outside the painting, from here an unparalleled jet of light falls on the elegant back of the model, and partly on the artist. By composing with colours alone, the result is an unforced mood. Orest Kormašov represents above all the ethical appeal in painting, relating to the depth of traditions that have been tested over the centuries.
