Maskiga (With a Mask) was painted in 1998, and the mask here is reminiscent of a Venetian carnival. Evald Okas depicts a lively female figure looking directly into the camera, her mask hanging over her neck. So we see two faces in the painting, one is real and the other is a fake, which means that we are being played with open cards. The paint’s colouring, bursting with hot hues, sends active stimulating signals.
