Agu Pihelga

Still-life by Agu Pihelga has been painted in a classical genre, but is still slightly surprising. Yes, here the artist follows certain sets of rules: both composition and changing of colours on the background from dark blue to the red of the carnations has been thought through in detail. But nice is Pihelga’s decision to place the flowers not into a quixotic crystal vase, but into a simple metal jug. Carnations, having become half-obligatory in the 1970ies, do not seem because of that as an officially set theme, but as a really sincere self-expression.
