Olav Maran is undoubtedly one of the key authors of the 1960ies. The artist, who is mainly known because of his still-lives, which bathe in silence, was then a totally different person. The profession of a placard artist gave him the decisiveness to see colours more boldly and room differently than others did. Classical still-life was for him the same as a battle-field, where young Maran boldly required the recognition of the actual value of art. He refused to depict the reality dryly, without adding his personal interpretation. For Maran bottles had to glow in the manner they actually never do. Colours had to originate from the artist’s brush and not from the colour chart. Everything had to be possible on that work only.
