The work by Priidu Aavik is undoubtedly original among the works depicting coastal motifs. There has been created an endless number of romantic sunsets and sunrises, there has been much admiration of the movement of waves and of the coastal nature. Aavik, on the other hand, takes as modest motif as possible, but he can also detect his own poetry in it. Similarly to some of the Estonian poets also Aavik does not talk about extremely bright colours, his talk is quiet and serious, it is of history and survival. Aavik anchors both himself and his art in the rambling times to something more steady, seeing beauty also in places, where no vanity can be detected.
