Herman Talvik

There exist certain cities that inspire us more than others and Venice is undoubtedly one of them. Its traits in Estonian art can already be seen in the creation of Konrad Mägi, but we should also mention the drawing by Karin Luts originating from the year 1960. while painting, Herman Talvik as a mystic has obviously been enchanted by unusual colour situation. Narrow streets create for the painter an a commendable situation, where half of the street is dark, another light. With the contrast of strong shadows and bright light Talvik achieves a powerful effect that is even enhanced by glowing of the water and a single bridge.
