Olav Maran`s sunset is unexpectedly romantic. Art historians know well his form/related experiments from the 1960ies that were really decisive for all of the artists. Wider public in its turn are well aware of Maran’s still-lives. The surprising work that can also be called a small discovery shows him as an artist, who expresses his sincere love towards the nature of his homeland. Even though we can detect here breaking free from kitchen realism, the skies are depicted with a surprising curve and the choice of colours is astonishing, it is still in the first range a love letter to Estonia.
