In the 1970ies Kristiina Kaasik was one of the most highly appreciated female artists. She continued this long tradition of Estonian painting that centers on the depiction of nature, but the creation of figures takes place on a totally different level. From one side Kaasik has of course created a “nice” picture: sensitive colour transmissions, unbelievable water depiction, offering of contrasts, thrilling vision of the room. From another side Kaasik has painted an absolutely new landscape, where the impossible becomes possible. She does not move into mythology or fantasy, but the skill of being in the command of different elements allows us to claim that a totally new world has been created.
