August Pulst "Heinakuhi koduväljal"

The creation by August Pulst has been quite unknown for the wider range of art lovers. The present work was accomplished at the time when Pulst was studying painting in the Riga School of Arts. He achieved the level that did not allow him to enter the circle of high-Pallas artists, but gave him the chance to prove his natural talent. No wonder that at the choice of themes Pulst turned to those closest to his heart. We should also pay attention to the year the work was painted: in 1913 the depiction of homeland motifs was not an everyday phenomenon in the Estonian art (as also the Estonian art itself had not been fully developed yet). “Heinakuhi koduväljal” is therefore so intimate and homely, but also social-political and expressing the attitude of the author.
