August Pulst

Maastik. 1923
watercolor. vm 23 x 30.8 cm (framed)

August Pulst’s impetuous water colour while being compared with his early oil paintings shows us the author from a totally different angle. We can still see the motif of the homeland, but instead of exactness we can detect here the impetuousness and romantic dreamy atmosphere, being characteristic to water-colours. Handling of water, reminding slightly of morning mist, arouses in all of us some kind of memory – we all have seen such kind of landscape somewhere. So the artist handles in his work one simply beautiful memory flashback – he does it gently, in a sensitive manner, but certainly convincingly.
