Loode-Eesti regionaalhaigla elulood

The presentation of Jaanus Vaiksoo’s new book Loode-Eesti Regionaalhaigla Elulood and the exhibition of Jüri Mildeberg’s witty illustrations will take place at 17.00 on Tuesday, 7 August, in Haus Gallery.

Jaanus Vaiksoo:

‘Each life is unique. Each life story is exciting. What could be more interesting than the private lives of other people? There is a reason that biographies are the most popular genre of literature. So it was that, after following long peregrinations, I turned towards the origins of the art of life, drew from the original source, and borrowed a little extra from the ark of senses. Life itself dealt the cards into my hands.

Loode-Eesti Regionaalhaigla Elulood is (as they say) stories about life itself. All of those people were patients of Northwest Estonia Regional Hospital’s rehabilitation department during the period 14 September 2017 – 12 January 2018. Strange fates meet in the hospital. The hospital is full of stories. And these stories are being shared! The hospital is a cradle for Decameronism. The solitude of the forest, fresh air, ecologically pure food, beer and oven fresh bread from Muhu’s bakers – all of this played a role, my breathing was restored and my tongue was unleashed. I had nothing left to do but to pour this deluge onto paper and record it for future generations. Dear reader – the road to the repository of wisdom demands care and persistence. I am your guide on this road, your mouthpiece and companion.’

Jaanus Vaiksoo (1967) is an Estonian writer, who has thus far written more for children, but has also published several literary articles. Jüri Mildeberg (1965) is an Estonian graphic artist and painter, who has previously illustrated books, including Indrek Koff’s books Saja Rahva Lood and Poeem, which were presented a couple of years ago at Haus Gallery.

The exhibition of illustrations from the book Loode-Eesti Regionaalhaigla Elulood will remain open at Haus Gallery until 8 September 2018. The book is available for purchase at the gallery.
