SUNDAY OF THE GALLERIST

Being one of the most original artists, Peeter Mudist has captured the eyes of the viewers already in the beginning of the 1970ies. Besides oil paintings are in his creation on important position also sculpture, graphical art and water-colours. The exhibition works originate from different creation periods of the artist. The earliest work is from the year 1975 and the latest one from this year. Creation of Mudist is an original composition of simple things and people that in somewhat dreamy manner disperse into the background of the painting that creates the effect of universality. This is the artist\'s ability to express with his personal self-evident manner the simple integral whole of the earthly and heavenly world.

The exhibition is organized to celebrate the issuing of the joint book of artist Peeter Mudist and gallerist Piia Ausman \'SUNDAY OF THE GALLERIST\'.

INTRODUCTION

The book is published by the Haus Gallery. As a publication of an art gallery, the book is a kind of precedent in the activity of the gallery, offering art-lovers an extraordinary, but possible way to get acquainted with art.

Idea of the book started from a simple work-related conversation. The artist had an idea to print as a booklet the series of his recently painted water-colours, the gallerist as a writer had a plan to gather into a poem collection the texts that once had been published in the media and also new texts. Suddenly it seemed intriguing to the parties involved to join their strength and intentions and to present pictures and poems side by side in one book as creation of a painter and a gallerist. The book was made in this manner, being original and unpretentious, not wanting to be either an art book or a book of poems, as the creation of neither of the authors was meant to illustrate or interpret the other. The poems and pictures were created at different times and in different manners. Fascination of this book lies first of all in its sudden creative concords.

The book has a heading that was spontaneously given by the painter - \'Sunday of the gallerist\' - Sunday, when there exists no one\'s land between the past and the beginning, day for oneself, day with pictures and thoughts. The authors had an intention to place the book into the everybody\'s no one\'s land, starting a casual talk with the reader, the idea of which is not determined or the meaning known.

The books are available in the Haus Gallery and in bookshops all over Estonia.

The Haus Gallery celebrates with the exhibition and with a freshly printed book the beginning of December of the year 2001, hoping to make it memorable for the art-lovers!
