Estonian Painters' Association

Inspired by the history of painting

At 18.00 on Thursday, 9 November, the traditional exhibition of the Estonian Painters’ Association will open at Haus Gallery. This year’s exhibition is dedicated to art history and the anniversary of Haus Gallery.

In celebration of its 20th anniversary, the gallery is paying tribute to the history of painting, in order to recall the reasons and the brush strokes that have been important and provided nourishment to our current art world. This year we offered members of the Estonian Painters’ Association the opportunity to look back, to find inspiration in thinking about what once was. Should one interpret the styles of art that have influenced the world, quote the works or pieces of compositions by others, return to one’s earlier creative style, paint something, which conveys traditions, touch upon an important topic in art history, search for distances or delve into the past of our own art history? The selection was left open, based on what the artist felt was closest to them and most eloquent. The important thing is that art history speaks through the paintings.

On display at the exhibition are portraits, figures, nudes, still lifes, and quotes from Italian and lowland masters, as well as Vincent van Gogh, Joan Mirò, David Hockney or our own Konrad Mägi. Artists taking the stage at the exhibition: Vano Allsalu, Stanislav Antipov, Ivi Arrak, Jüri Arrak, Owe Büttner, Jaan Elken, Herlet Elvisto, Mauri Gross, Ashot Jegikjan, Eva Jänes, Ivar Kaasik, Andro Kööp, Tiia Külv, Mati Kütt, Macari, Silvi Lepparu, Lola Liivat, Helle Lõhmus, Philiph Arvo Luik, Mara, Lilian Mosolainen, Johanna Mudist, Maarit Murka, Mall Nukke, Mall Paris, Tiiu Pallo-Vaik, Juss Piho, Kristiina Pärk, Mari Roosvalt, Uno Roosvalt, Sorge, Sven Saag, Valev Sein, Kätlin Stahl, Anatoli Strahhov, Urve Sunny-Dzidzaria, Karl-Erik Talvet, Tiina Tammetalu, Lea Tomson, Heli Tuksam, Katrin Valdre, Katrin Valgemäe, Lev Vassiljev.

The topic of the exhibition is derived from this year’s anniversary of Haus Gallery. The gallery has steadfastly contributed to the promotion of art here, creating bridges between the past and the present, speaking about our art history and the newest directions. We have tried to show the connection between Estonian art and former European metropolises, referenced its systematic and professional development, directed attention to important art trends and events that have influenced us, and kept our artistic talent in orbit. The purpose of the gallery has been to create visible and convincing value for Estonian artists, to bring art closer to the public, to search for clearer and more intriguing points of contact with fine art and society.
