Tiina Tammetalu

Personal Paradise

At this exhibiton, we witness Tiina Tammetalu’s (b. 1961) colorful world, which the artist is known for. Knowing the psychological powers of colors, she has created powerful state-of-mind paintings.

Personal Paradise alludes to sublime feelings that arise in special locations. On one hand, the works are abstract, but their tones and pastose evoke sensations from real places, where the artist has experienced paradise-like lushness, joy or peace. Recurring motifs include portals – doors, windows, paths –, and rhythms – lines, waves, knots. Tammetalu is simultaneously psychological and metaphysical, alternating between change or disruption and continuity or equilibrium. No need to metion how refreshing is the effect of color and rhythm in the current kaamos.

Painter and graphic designer Tiina Tammetalu graduated from Estonian Academy of Arts as a painter in 1989 and attended Master’s Studies for Interdisciplinary Arts in 2003–2006. The artist’s exhibition debut was in 1987 as a memeber of Group T and her first solo exhibiton took place in 1991. Tammetalu has been a member of Estonian Artists’ Association and Estonian Painters’ Association since 1992 and a member of Estonian Graphic Designers’ Association since 2002. The artist also works as a curator and a university lecturer. Tammetalu’s works can be found at Estonian Art Museum, Estonian Culture Fund, Tallinn Art Hall Fund, Estonian National Library’s art collection, at Baltic Gallery Le Treport in France, in Guido Sammelselg’s private collection and in several private collections around the world.
