Tarmo Roosimölder

CONTINUITY

Tarmo Roosimölder is a unique person and creator. The artist's meaningful silences in the paintings alternate with eloquent explanations of how he views the reality of life through his works. "Don't start talking to me here, or I'll talk about my pictures for too long," says Roosimölder, hanging up the artworks on the walls in Haus Gallery exhibition hall.

Roosimölder is accurate in detail both in the planning of the design of his exhibition and in its technical execution, which has been a labour of love, working tensely and deeply behind the canvas with a paintbrush. "When I was painting this artwork, I planted and even harvested garlic", he says referring to a diptych. Considering the finesse in all his paintings, there is no doubt that his approach is extremely extensive and thorough. The artist has also emphasized serenity. Saying that when he paints his goal is to increase the feeling of peace both in himself and those around him. We can say the subheading of every Roosimölder exhibition that has been and is now, and will be in the future, will always be – Serenity, really!

As an artist Tarmo Roosimölder is self-taught, starting with painting and graphics in the late 1980s, having studied geology at the University of Tartu. It is probably the curves, heights, waters, and open spaces of the planet and their strata that have shaped the main themes of Roosimölder's work. Inspired by real places, sea- and landscapes, Tarmo composes his worlds of thoughts and his own philosophy, wherein a human figure - sometimes two, three, or more characters, are standing, walking, or sitting, interacting with the environment.

Roosimölder's paintings make the viewer think about the imperceptibility of the universe and, in fact, the seeming insignificance of a tiny person somewhere, whose moments of existence are still great nonetheless. Our own thoughts are a whole world to us, while the world by itself is much bigger than these thoughts could ever be, and vice versa - sometimes our thoughts are so extensive that they have no end or edge and we can't grasp any answer over the peaks of consciousness.

Tarmo Roosimölder's art is truly remarkable, not necessarily in terms of size but in terms of meaning. He says that he has noticed that a 120 x 140 cm canvas is a dimension that his artist's energy fills with the necessary intensity. However, in addition to the philosophical density of Roosimölder's works, his compositions are completely minimalist. He underlines this specifically – he creates entirely cleansed spaces where there is nothing excessive that could interfere with the musical image of his idea. Roosimölder loves music, especially minimalist music, however he doesn’t listen to any specific music while painting. Still, in his exhibition, there are sounds that can be imagined and heard, some echoing and detectable tones like a song of a big whale somewhere in the dark blue depths of his painted seas. This undercurrent of the sounds accompanying the artworks is strangely mystical. It invites the audience not only to view the exhibition but also to listen to it.

Tarmo Roosimölder's exhibition "Continuity" is an uninterrupted continuation to creative thought in the artist and the viewer simultaneously, before and after each new experience.
