TRACES OF TIME

At the exhibition are exposed ten works from the different creative periods of the artist up to the current year. The earliest work originates from the year 1977. From it is also inspired the title of the exhibition. The artist has exposed works that as signs of her creation during the last two decades have remained to haunt and capture her as traces.

Born in 1928, Lola Liivat received the artist\'s education in the post-war Tartu Art Institute that carried the Pallas-period spirit. Social realism that prevailed in that period has not influenced her creation.

The artist has mainly been known throughout times as a vigorous, emotional abstractionist. In her works she likes raised thick surfaces. The colours change, still blue tones are preferred. According to the artist\'s own words blue is deeply meaningful in her creation. Just with blue she has expressed during different periods her national views and freedom of spirit.

Kaire Nurk wrote in 1996/ 97:\"Her magical-depicting abstractionism creates the desire to forget the modern art science and criticism and to leave by watching the paintings to the endless fields of associations, with the only aim - to be. Because Lola Liivat has painted understandings of the essence of being into her paintings: the Dedication, Memory, Distance of Dreams, Deepest, Breaking, Heaven and Earth, Speech, Meaning of the Passing, etc.\"
