August Künnapu
ALBATROSS
At this springy exhibition, it is August Künnapu's quality art as we know it. He has always been inspired by people and animals that feel joy, anticipation, have athletic energy, lust for life or who just have the oomph – those who seize the day.
Künnapu's scenes, whether they are set in Estonia or anywhere else in the world, reflect the everyday life and the motifs are always relatable - hustlers, players, hedonists and so on. The artist's color palette is straightforward in its brightness and his themes are purposefully naive. Every painting bares bubbly vitality. Künnapu himself has said: "It's nice when the energy drawn from the painting brings good mood, happy tears or other positive reactions. . . . With good art, the author, the viewers and the whole world get better."
August Künnapu (b. 1978) attended Estonian Academy of Arts from 1997 to 2002 and he has also studied in London. He has been awarded with Konrad Mägi Art Award (2007) and Kristjan Raud Art Award (2018). Künnapu's artworks have been acquired by Estonian Art Museum, Tartu Art Museum, Viinistu Art Museum, private companies and private collectors in Estonia, Latvia, Denmark, Germany and the United States.
Exhibited are paintings from 2003 to 2019.
