Mall Nukke’s " Moneyfaces" in Haus Gallery

On 10 August Mall Nukke will open her personal exhibition called " Moneyfaces" in Haus Gallery.
At the exhibition the artist displays a series of collages focusing on the subject of money and culture, contemplating about Estonia’s own money and its symbolism via the faces of cultural figures depicted on the bank notes:

"Who are they in reality? They who have become the symbolic faces of our Estonian kroon, soon to fall into oblivion? What is the connection of the Money World with the Cultural World other than the faces of poets, artists and writers on bank notes? They are the “money’s faces” i.e. also the “people’s faces”, persons from among the common people whom history has put on pedestal.

It is odd that there (i.e. on the bank notes) are no politicians, state officials, real estate entrepreneurs or major shareholders. The latter are the superstars of our country, are they not?
Besides, it is understandable that notes with such outdated images will be eliminated, kroon will disappear by the end of the year. And along with it Koidula and Jakobson from the common man’s lips.
Culture ceased to be fashionable long ago. So why care about the shadows from the past? How much can they influence the present-day anyway?

Romantic visionaries do not fit in the world of modern raw capitalism“.

The exhibition will be open until 17 September.
