Art auction environment on the internet – Online Arthaus 24/7!

This spring will bring promising, important and long-awaited innovations to the art market!

Having spent more than 20 years organising auctions of classic Estonian art and also being responsible for creating the auction tradition here, Haus Gallery has now opened an internet auction environment – www.onlinearthaus.com.

While Haus Gallery’s grand auctions of mainly high priced paintings only take place twice a year, the internet auction is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Online Arthaus sells art in a playful auction style, in which the starting price for all works is zero. Works can often be purchased for less than their regular price and the primary emphasis is on works within a more affordable price class.

The online auction is the first format of its kind in the Baltics, and is being developed with an eye towards the international market. The number and selection of works on the page are being continuously updated, and the platform has the potential, should they be interested, to include artists from neighbouring countries. At present, the environment is Estonian and English, with Russian and other languages to be added.

High-quality art doesn’t necessarily have to be expensive!

The predominant understanding is that original art is expensive and therefore not affordable. This is not true. The price of art depends on how widely known the author is, as well as the technique used and when the work was completed. Art comes in different price ranges and the pictures are accompanied by different sales situations, to which Online Arthaus would like to extend an opportunity. The average cost of purchases on Online Arthouse are in the range of EUR 50 to EUR 500.

In addition to the purchase and sale service the environment also introduces and interprets art history and its origins, publishing various articles that provide an overview and recommendations.  Auctions on the internet are author, era or subject based. Selling or buying art via Online Arthaus is simple and accessible to everyone. Works of art are assessed and their quality is ensured by the top professionals in their respective field, ensuring the suitability of offers and the security of all purchases.

In parallel to the Online Arthaus environment, the traditional spring auction is also open at Haus Gallery, with an exhibition offering the public a spirited cross section of 20th century Estonian art history. The auction is set to take place on 27 April, in the gallery rooms, and works can be examined in person or via the homepage www.haus.ee
