Evi Tihemets
(1932)
Born in Tapa, Evi Tihemets enrolled to the art institute with a desire to study painting but through coincidence she began to study graphics and graduated in 1958 as a publications' graphic artist. After graduating from school Evi Tihemets has worked as a freelance artist all her life. From early on it became typical for Tihemets to combine several graphic techniques and apply complex methods for the end result. She has cultivated many techniques, especially color lithography, soft varnish and other gravure printing techniques, and mixed techniques. She has created small graphics and portraits as well as monumental forms, illustrated books, and depicted both nature and industrial landscapes. She is one of the first to consistently and effectively bring color to Estonian graphics and its various techniques in the 1960s as one of the most important means of expression.
