On Evald Okas’ graphic page, the figurative and abstract poles form a harmonious whole. Ofort allows for dot-drawing, while aqua ink allows for a ‘bubbled’ painterly surface. The optimistic image of the old ships, with their white full-sail sails and flags waving in the wind, represents the idea of defiance – defying the storm and the wind, and apparently also technological progress in the maritime field. A closer look reveals a lot of seagulls in the picture, whose cries could be added to the visual. Evald Okas belongs to the top of the art of the 1970s as a highly productive artist and painter, whose talent was recognised in Estonia and abroad. Today, his family of artists has founded the Okas Art Centre in Haapsalu.
