Alfred Kongo, an 81-year-old Pallasian who had seen many changes of state power and the coming and going of various official political trends during his life, was still moving around at the Tartu Artists’ House in 1987. As a gentle personality, he was kept in shape by sticking to his painting principles, which of course came from the Pallas school of art of the 1930s and the professors there, Villem Ormisson and Ado Vabbe. It was an ideal that holding on to meant inner spiritual freedom. Maastik (Landscape) is one of his paintings, where it is important to have a refined mixing of colours and place them in the correct proportions in the composition. A painting with a good feeling.
