Italian Landscape. 1994

Evald Okas’ works based on his travels could be highlighted in his oeuvre. Just as this HAUS Gallery auction includes a painting of a Helsinki park (1991), a drawing of a Roman woman (1966), and graphic prints of Japanese women (1965), so too does this post-Berlin Wall Italian landscape from 1994. The southern climate and sunny weather are felt, the branches of the trees twisting dramatically in all directions. At the centre of the composition’s central perspective are two small figures merged with their natural central figure.
