This painting can also be seen as an illustration of the period, as the dark brown colouring and the horizon enclosed by the dense trees can have such an effect. On the other hand, it is probably the strategy of an artist who graduated from the Pallas school of painting: to distance himself from politics in difficult times and seek refuge in nature and art. Early spring is particularly challenging from a scenic point of view, because instead of a uniform summer or winter, it is an alternation of seasons and thus a fusion of colours and forms. The choice of format is unexpected: vertical landscapes are rare, and in this case it emphasises the elegant trunks of the Art Nouveau trees.
