Ott Kangilaski’s experimental still life from the early 1930s moves alongside the mainstream art of the time. The backdrop of black, white, and grey tones is reminiscent of a Cubist wave that briefly came to the fore a decade earlier, when the focus was on the division of space and the tension between different parts of it. In such a colourful background, the colours of the vase and the flower blossoms are vivid, and the artist has not had to push the pedal to the metal, which could have led him down a path of sweetness. Playing with elegant forms, Kangilaski has arrived at a work that can be described in one word as stylish.
