If you go to the Raphael rooms in the Vatican, there is the fresco "Parnassus" from 1509-1511. from the High Renaissance period, which represents an idealistic combination of philosophy, religion, poetry and legislation. Raphael, in turn, refers to Mount Parnassus in central Greece, where a select group of ancient gods and muses were said to have lived.
In the Soviet Union of the 1980s, there was a rather idealistic time for artists, where they aspired to spiritual heights. Vladislav Staniševski's etching Parnassus, where we see a laurel wreath on a woman's head and other references to ancient Greek mythology, poetry and music, is probably placed in this context. The central figures are in the heavenly heights, not somewhere in the valley. The aesthetics of the work refers rather to the Russian school, but having studied graphics at ERKI, there was no attempt to bend students of different nationalities to necessarily follow the opinions of Estonian lecturers. In this way, the personality of the artists was preserved.
