Ilmar Kruusamäe

It is known that Ilmar Kruusamäe's long-term painting work consists of two main approaches - photorealistic depiction (city, people) and caricature depiction (representation of human relationships through parodic animals) - the painting here can be considered a completely atypical representative of Ilmar Kruusamäe's work. One might conjecturely ask, is it social isolation, mask-wearing and enforced self-isolation during the global pandemic of 2021? "Silence with three bottles" indirectly highlights the lack of human relationships. The style of painting is also slightly naive and angular, uncharacteristic of Ilmar Kruusamäe.
Ilmar Kruusamäe is an artist from Tartu who has formed a friendship group of artists called Kursi koolkond around himself. The idea behind this has been to declare one's attachment to the land and value smaller places outside of Tallinn. Ilmar Kruusamäe has had a central place in Estonian photorealistic painting since the 1970s.
