Mare Vint
(1942–2020)
White Cities V. 2019
Colored pencil on canvas. 100 x 70 cm (not framed)
White cities - this can also represent the ideal category that Mare Vint obviously encoded in his works. White is a characteristic color of modernist architecture (eg the term "white cube" or modernist gallery), being associated with the term "clean" loved by many artists. (Spiritual) purity originates from a religious context and was also seen as a thoroughly positive aspiration in modernist art. The geometry of the air horn is accentuated by a pure light blue eye of water like a dream.
Colored pencil on canvas - this kind of image creation technique has not been used in Estonian art so far. Mare Vindi's work has been tacitly dialogic, which her museum exhibitions in recent years have also brought out to a great extent. At the same time, dialogicity does not reduce the independence of Mare Vint's works, rather it gives them more dimensions.
