Olga Terri
(1916–2011)
A View to the Garden. 1982
Oil, canvas. 105 x 150 cm (framed)
Olga Terri's painting style is suggestive and delicate. There are mostly no strong emotions, shapes or colors. Like many other artists in the 1980s, Terri turned her gaze to the garden - but this time to trees, not flowerbeds or smaller plants. Just as a tree with fruit grew in the middle of the Garden of Eden, here we see a tree with fruit at the edge of the painting and another tree in full beauty in the center of the painting, illuminated by an almost golden glow. There seems to be a view of the agulh behind, but it remains in the distance and does not really touch the subject.
Olga Terri has been that clear conscience in Estonian art, who, keeping to the background as a person, brought out deep themes in her painting, but as a mystery, rather than obtrusively. One of the best-known and most reproduced works was painted in 1945 in the context of war and betrayal, which jumps out of the mainstream of the art of that time. Amazing courage to stand out from all the other artists. See KUMU's work of the week from 2018.
Available only on the auction, on 29th of October.
