The paintings of Jüri Arrak are characterised by slightly mythical creatures or abstractions of human qualities, or even aliens, looking in from a square window. Since the background is a light blue endless sky, they are located outside the house, while the viewer of the picture is located inside the imaginary house. What message do they have? Is it cosy to be inside the house? The picture here looks at the viewer, and not vice versa. Jüri Arrak has painted more variations on the same theme, one of them was chosen by graphic designer Margus Tamm as the front cover image of magazine of kunst.ee (number 4, 2021). In the same issue of the magazine, the young art historian Aleksander Metsamärt writes about the exhibition of his co-curated works of young Jüri Arrak in the Mikkel Museum, a reading recommendation.
