Anatoli Kaigarodov’s style was quite different from that of Estonian authors, striking with its bold decorativeness and unconcealed joie de vivre. The rye stacks, rendered in overwhelmingly warm tones, do not carry the heaviness and sweat of work, but are like beautiful sculptural objects in the middle of an idyllic pastoral. Kaigarodov does not associate rye stacks with complex questions of identity or work, but sees them as part of nature that offers people aesthetic spectacle and emotional satisfaction.
