Philiph Arvo Luik

Philiph Arvo Luik, an artist based in Sweden, has painted plants as regular ornaments on wallpaper in close-up, and abstract plants as part of a landscape from a distance. The painting seems to be a view out of a window – on the one hand, such a typical method of painting for artists in the history of art, but on the other hand, such a typical situation in the year 2021, when the lockdown of the world began, which did not affect Sweden in the same way. Golden autumn paints a beautiful picture of nature, bringing to the fore through colour what may have previously gone unnoticed. The painting juxtaposes human creation with the creation of nature, the sign with reality itself. Philiph Arvo Luik studied art at the Tartu Art School at the end of the 1960s, settling in Stockholm during the Cold War, before the borders opened.
