Nancy Nõmmeots-Pedersen "Figures in a Summer Landscape"

Born in Hiiumaa but who fled to Sweden as a child, Nancy Nõmmeots-Pedersen began her creative career behind the border. It is probably for this reason that she is convinced and definitive in her new forms, because the past does not oppress. In the aftermath of cubism, the young Nõmmeots-Pedersen, only 25 years old and typical of 1950s modernism, seeks new solutions to form by geometrising the human. On the other hand, the bold and bright colours, which would have been impossible to use in the USSR at the time, immediately stand out. The message of the painting is also rather Swedish, emphasising the importance and specialness of motherhood and femininity in general.
