The primal image of the wild meadow and the personality of the wild boar that lives there is exactly what Kaljo Põllu emphasised in his art in general. Just as Kadri Mälk and her jewellery school of thought stood out at international jewellery exhibitions at the beginning of the 21st century with an image that referred to the remaining primeval forests and their inhabitants. Kaljo Põllu’s favourite technique, mezzotint, allows him to create a mysterious, slightly ancient visual. The wild boar on his graphic sheet is a free and wild animal with its own free will, not a stuffed or caged animal made safe by man. This could be the ideal that artists wanted for themselves, to decide for themselves.
