What does the word ‘Genesis’ mean? Probably the same as the name of the band Genesis, the book of Genesis from the Old Testament translated into Estonian. The story of the creation of the world, the story of the Garden of Paradise, the story of a perfect life without evil, and then the story of how a man and a woman were deprived of paradise because they wanted to experience a life of the flesh with suffering and become wise through it. The book of books has been a hidden source of Siim-Tanel Annus’ art from the very beginning, when, in the early 1980s, he organised performances in his home garden around Thanksgiving for selected audiences, in which he performed with a crown, declaring the territory of his garden a kingdom. The kingdom is the political system of government that the book of books speaks of, and which, according to its idea, should reside within every human being. This means, among other things, a culture of respect and a humble attitude as the key to success. Siim-Tanel Annus’ painting depicts a world in the midst of an information network made visible. Another manifestation of the circular shape as a perfect geometry in painting amidst blue and gold reminds us of the importance of caring for ourselves and our surroundings.
