Ilmar Linnat "Saaremaa"

Fragmentary studies of Ilmar Linnat in different art schools did not hinder his personal development into one of the most highly recognised lecturers in the Estonian State Art Institute. After defending of the diploma thesis in the year 1947 in the painting faculty he became known in the next decade first of all as a graphic artist and drawer, but according to the model of his teacher Ado Vabbe Linnat also made oil paintings.
During the World War II Linnat was sent by the Estonian National Museum to Saaremaa to draw up farm facilities. Obviously it was the place where was concluded the work of the 30-year-old painter, where etnographic preciseness is replaced by a farm road, which leads the viewer's glance into the heart of the picture. Slightly decayed fences and foreign-seeming trees, reaching into the blue sky seem in the year 1944 to be the last wave to the post-war time.
