Boris Ottenberg

Boris Ottenberg is example of an artist, for whom creating of paintings is an unseparable part of his real self that does not depend on any possible outer factors. Ottenberg, who was born in St.Petersburg, studied for a short period in the school of St.Petersburg Art Promotion Society, but academic education was not sufficiently alluring for him. After Estonia gained its independence, Ottenberg worked as a full-time accountant, but participated actively at organizing of art life, being the member of the Estonian Artists’ Association and the Central Union Estonian Figurative Arts.
Ottenberg gained recognition especially with his seascapes that render with their romantic style also the author’s attitude towards creation. Art his for him first of all the creator of the mood. A seascape, seemingly being free of any deep meanings, starts to talk to us while being a work by Ottenberg, bringing to the viewers melancholy and quieting anticipation.
