Even though the topic of sea has in the Estonian painting an especially deep tradition, the graphical art does not reflect as deep impact of the beforementioned theme. Ernst Tiido’s “Nina kaluriküla”, which was accomplished in the 1940ies, is of course not just a depiction of a village. Tiido’s approach here has been very scientific and he has tried to gather here all important key-words that for him are connected with a fishing village. Of course the village itself and the sea, which becomes the background of the picture. On the foreground there have been placed people – fishermen, who give the meaning both to the village and the sea. Sails and boats, fishermen and women, in the sky clouds, promising a stormy weather and a tree, standing firmly on the left.
