\"For me has always been important to search for a sign through which to express my feelings,\" the author acknowledges. Therefore it does not seem amazing anymore, why an experienced lecturer of painting from the Estonian Art Academy constantly tries to cross the limits of herself and painting or doubt in the existence of their necessity.

In her creation Mari Roosvalt has always been searching for the essence of things and situations. While fixing the different conditions of things, rooms, colours and surfaces around her, she also seems to be looking into the bottom of her own being. This is still not an attempt to cancel the value of the art of painting itself, but the wish to join the world and painting into an organic integer. Roosvalt does not try to narrow things down, she widens them. She looks at the surroundings through canvas glasses, nods to a familiar bridge railing and then throws herself into the paint.

\"Actually I wanted to study cinema and photo art in the Moscow Cinema Institute,\" reveals Roosvalt her long-term wish to make the experience of immediate world perception suitable for watching through an object-lense. Cinema and photo art seem to possess a specific strength that is able to wake up to a new life items and atmospheres, sleeping on the already fixed positions in our perception of the world. We can not place anymore the meanings of phenomena for ever onto the larder shelves of our visual perception of the world, create their final and fixed appearance. Such breaking by Roosvalt does not frighten, vice versa. She is now and again ready to have a thorough cleaning in the larder. \"The photo art is until now my desire,\" she confesses.

Roosvalt is still first of all known as a painter. The primar value of a painting has always been regarded its colours, shades and semi-shades, meltings and harsh changes. But Roosvalt herself states that she has always used quite a small amount of colour. \"I have rather tried to paint in one colouring on my works the light,\" the artist herself gives us the initial explanation. It is the light that is supposed to transfigure, that is supposed to carry in itself \"the knowledge\" of the inner rhythm of the internal pendulum movements of things. Roosvalt melts the world into her own colour light that blinds and cherishes simultaneously. She enjoys painting, spills seemingly occasionally on the canvas splashes of colour and pushes open the blocked channels of emotions. Still the Roosvalt paintings preserve their aim - to find and mediate this, which the artist herself carefully calls the eternal.

Synthesis of the photo art and painting is not rare in today\'s art world. Roosvalt\'s works become rare because of the forwarding of the discreet correlation of different rhythms and surfaces. The controlled vision of photos is hurled in the spree of colours, but it never changes into a freaky carnival. Single phrases from the architecture, surrounding us, take the viewer for a stroll along paths that have been found by Roosvalt. Here are the Bridges, discharging into the greenery and The Blue Ones which hang from the towers. Go boldly. There is no chance of getting lost. There exists only finding.
