Nadezhda Tchernobai (1985) is a young artist from Tartu, who, since 2006, has participated in numerous group shows in Tallinn and Tartu and one solo show in The Estonian Artists' Association’ gallery Drakooni. She has studied painting in Tartu University, Estonian Academy of Arts and complemented her education in Latvian Academy of Arts, taking courses of art pedagogy and culture management in the same time.

Exhibition „MÄ“, which is also artists MA diploma work consists of two parts – video installation, which is depicting the process of producing the works, and of the grand scale paintings themselves.

In paintings two creative stages are traceable: first – thought through, constructive handling of the figures in characteristic for the author visual style. In this phase authorship and rationality are important. Second phase is destructive, uncontrollable. In this part trance, ritual and eternity are important.
All pictures are painted with body, hair and cotton sponge. Blood and its different solutions as well as coal were used as paint.

Nadezhda Tchernobai on her creativity:
Nothing is important, neither feelings nor thoughts. Everything is destructive and … Nothing I say will tell you anything. It will stay in eternity. Stay there, but no one will feel interest in it… blood and paper are short-term… they are just for a moment… something is drawing and painting with my hand, through me, with my help – its eternity. What do I do? I sacrifice… nothing is important, you can die, you can stay alive. You are just one moment in eternity… there is no reality… you can try to catch on time, but… time is faster than you are… you cant show more, but that what is coming from within yourself…

Nadezhda Tchernobai MA diploma defending will take place in ArtDepoo gallery on 15th of January at 14. MA tutor is Ph.D Jaan Elken, reviewers – Mari Kartau and Ki wa.
Exhibition is open for visitors until 5th of February.
