Mathematical Relationships

Memorial exhibition

On February 9 at 5pm the memorial exhibition of Urmas Mikk called “Mathematical Relationships” will be opened in Haus Gallery’s salon of earlier art. The exhibition consists of about twenty pictures in gouache technique completed in 1977–1986, the style of which can be called geometrical abstractionism with the influence of constructivism.

Ten years have passed since the last memorial exhibition “Images on Stage” (in Tallinn City Gallery in 2000 and in the library of Tartu University in 2001) and now we have the opportunity to rediscover Urmas Mikk’s creative work. The exhibition has a new name which should also provide a new angle to the viewer.

Urmas Mikk was known as a versatile person who proved himself as an artist and writer and at the end also as a city official.

„Our ideal is a gentleman, a noble official, an artist… The initial spiritual idea – decorative picture. Avantgardism and diplomacy, process and result.” (Urmas Mikk, from the book “From Private Life to Academic Life”).
