EXHIBITION "EXTRAVAGANZA" - WORKS FROM THE PRIVATE COLLECTION OF JOSE COROMINAS

The exhibition is open from 15th of March till the 2nd of April 2023.

Jose, who comes from a famous Barcelonian family, has been collecting Estonian art for almost 20 years, since he moved from Helsinki to Tallinn. Today, the works of the classics of Estonian modern art form an important part of the real estate investor's collection. The exhibition in Haus Gallery presents a few dozen works, the focus of which is Peeter Mudist's large-format hexagonal figural composition "One road" from 1983, as well as rare early works by Jüri Arrak, such as "Swimmers" (1971) and "Kite" (1973) and a nude painted in a pop style on a yellow background, made nearly ten years later by Enn Põldroos. With special love, Jose has collected the works of Nikolai Kormašov, of which there are several in his collection. Two works can be seen in the exhibition, of which "Three Kings' Day" (1990) brings together the historical symbols of European religion in one seemingly simple farm motif, typical of the artist. In addition, the exhibition also includes works by Evald Okas, Rein Tammiku, Henn Roode, Olav Maran and Raivo Korstnik.

The exhibition of the private collection of Jose Corominas offers the viewer a unique and definitely intriguing opportunity to consciously look at two important and closely related elements, both the collector and his art collection, where the bold choices of content and motifs of the paintings also speak of their owner, in this case a non-Estonian and a man whose interest in Estonian art is worthy of respect. The exhibition also invites curiosity, in a good way, to compare one collector and his collection, reading his thoughts and the world through extremely excellent Estonian modern art.
