Juss Piho

Sündinud / Born 1963

Juss Piho (1963) began his artistic career in 1978 as a caricaturist in the columns of various Estonian newspapers and magazines. It is therefore no surprise that Piho's contemporary paintings are often both of the people and for the people. His characters meet the spectator where the moment has paused. The paintings act as simplified stop-motion pictures of everyday stories around us, perhaps trying to help us understand the ever more complicated and fast-moving world we live in. Piho's cold and Northern colour palette is balanced by his warm and playful plots. The artist's characters always tell a story while the geometric planes in the background leave enough room for the spectator to fill in the empty spaces.
