PIND / LIND
Paraphrasing Georges Perec’s foreword into his Species of Spaces: The subject of this exhibition is not the void exactly, but rather what there is round about or inside it. To start with, then, there isn’t very much: nothingness, the impalpable, the virtually immaterial; extension, the external, what is external to us, what we move about in the midst of, our ambient milieu, the space around us.
In short, spaces are multiplied, been broken up and have diversified. There are spaces today of every kind and every size, for every use and every function. To live is to pass from one space to another, while doing your very best not to bump yourself.
G. Perec, Species of Spaces / Especes d’espaces, 1974
Krista Mölder's new exhibition that was put together specially for ArtDepoo balances on the boundaries of something: of the horizon, of being inside and outside, on the ethereal (time)line between a plane surface and spatiality. Balancing is about keeping the balance. In the current exhibition exaggerations are avoided, the visual language is extensively scanty.
Like a flat sheet of paper can be folded into a bird, into a certain shape, so the light - one of the pillars of photography - combined with perspective create a space around the paper-birds that helps to reveal new facets, new spheres. In order to see landscape in the grey floor or new life in the plumage of a bird, who has had its day, one does not have to rise above it as a bird (to distance oneself) but use one’s imagination.
In this work Asko Lõhmus’s collection of bird feathers and Heidi Hmelnitski’s origami storks have been used.
